The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is still a young country struggling with growth pains.However, it is also evident that its "hiccups" are complicated by a variety of internal and external factors.The DRC is dealing with persistent problems that seem to challenge its efforts to promote national stability.Obviously, the government in Kinshasa cannot exercise exclusive jurisdiction over its territory and people because the country is fractured and influenced by external forces (including the conflict in Rwanda).The prevalence of factional politics makes it difficult for the central government to enjoy the support of the people.Equally important, the consequences of home-grown and external political violence appear to challenge the DRC's sovereignty.
This is a problem further complicated by a military that lacks professionalism, corruption and violence against women and girls. What do you think?
