This week, you will be responsible for writing an argumentative essay. The essay is intended to be the culmination of your study of Utilitarianism.
The essay should be 2-3 pages long, double spaced, and formatted according to MLA requirements.
There are no citation requirements for this essay. That is, you do not need to have any extra resources. However, if you use any resources (websites, books, articles, etc.) make sure to properly cite them. Failure to properly cite the resources could constitute plagiarism, which will result in a zero for the assignment.
Your essay should have two components. The first component is factual and the prompt is #1 below. I will be looking for a correct response to the questions in #1 below. Your textbook should be helpful here. The second component is argumentative and the prompt is #2 below. For this component, you will be graded on the quality of your argument. Your critical thinking skills should be helpful here.
Utilitarians think that some humans are morally equal to some animals. What exactly do they mean by this, and how do they argue for it?
Is their argument correct? If so, give an argument defending the utilitarian perspective. If not, give an argument criticizing the utilitarian perspective.
