Unfortunately, along with the increased opportunities offered by international purchasing comes additional risk. Firms must learn to minimize these risks and manage them appropriately so that supply disruptions or quality problems do not jeopardize customer service. It is this trade-off between opportunity and risk, between cost and benefit, that supply managers are asked to evaluate and manage on a daily basis.
Can anyone point me to any full length articles that identify the potential risks and rewards that can be realized by a commercial business seeking to purchase goods and services internationally. The identification of the risks and rewards must be supported and documented by actual cases from the real business world. Examples from specific companies.
