Understanding the culture of the country

Assignment:

Part 1:

Understanding the culture of the country you wish to do business in is critical for your company's success. It is often said that it is more important to know the culture of the country that you are doing business in than it is to have expertise in the products you wish to sell in this country. Suppose that you have just spent 2 years living in this country and that you are familiar enough with this country's culture to answer the following questions (using the Internet to refresh your thinking).

Using your chosen foreign country as your guide, address the following:

  • Determine whether it operates within a low-context or high-context culture.
  • Identify at least 1 other country that you would consider in the same cluster (share similar cultures).
  • Explain how the culture of your country (e.g., language, religion, attitudes and beliefs, aesthetics) affects how you will market your product in the years ahead in this country.

Part 2:

Understanding the culture of the country you wish to do business in is critical for your company's success. Suppose you were asked to describe certain key features of the country that you have chosen for class. Realizing that you are depending upon your ability to research as much as from personal experience, feel free to utilize outside sources. After doing so, reveal the following:

  • Determine whether your chosen foreign country operates within a low-context or high-context culture.
  • Identify at least 1 other country that you would consider in the same cluster (share similar cultures).
  • Explain how the culture of your country (e.g., language, religion, attitudes and beliefs, aesthetics) affects how you will market your product in the years ahead in this country.
