Understanding contemporary workplace issues

Assignment:

Does Apple have an obligation to allow gov't access to the cell phones of suspected terrorists?

The goal of paper is to look at topics we are studying on a more "popular" level, that is, an attempt to understand contemporary workplace issues as they relate to Organizational Behavior. Areas such as motivation, leadership, power, corporate culture, and job satisfaction will be studied. Each topic has ethical implications, and as such is up for "debate". Your goal is to create a complete understanding of the topic and how /why it can create differing viewpoints for your classmates using ORGB (organizational behavior) topics, theories, and research to generate understanding. You should have references external to the case you were given in class. Research the topic to gain a better understanding of the multiple views people take of your specific issue.

Here's some topics you can use while you are writing the paper, i dont except you discuss them all, but try to involve them all somehow
Theories, References, and Topics to research:

  • Utilitarianism
  • US Patriot Act
  • Permission from actual owner of property
  • Duty to respect a US court decision
  • All Writs Act
  • Software could only access 5s version of iPhone; shouldn't be useable for newer versions
  • "If you had ability to access information to prevent a future terrorist attack, would you do it?" example?
  • Would breaking of encryption allow gov't to access average citizen's phones?
  • Gov't job hiring process requires in-depth background checks
  • In matter of company property, by putting personal info on company property you are agreeing that it may be public info for the entity. (If entity agrees to provide info, it's in the hands of the requester)
