Two masses are connected by a rope and spring the masses

Here is the problem which I am struggling on, please help me!

Problem: Two masses are connected by a rope and spring. The masses were released from rest and are smoothly accelerating. (Any initial simple harmonic motion eventually damps out and the masses just continue to accelerate smoothly.) The left mass is 10 kg and the right hand mass is 20 kg. The rope passes over a frictionless peg (no rotation here).

A- Find the extension of the spring (k=2000 N/m) when the SHM is gone and the masses are smoothly accelerating. (Hint, you might do well to find the tension in the rope first.)

Please show how you obtained the answer.
