Traumatology: This is the study of wounds. In other words we can say that traumatology is the study of wounds or injuries which can be caused by accidents or violence to a person or the surgical therapy or repair of the damage. This is a branch of medicine. Traumatology is often considered a subset of surgery or in countries without the specialty of trauma surgery it is most often use as sub-specialty to orthopedic surgery. Traumatology can also be termed as accident surgery.
Some factors in the assessment of wounds can be the nature of the wound, whether it is a abrasion, laceration, bruise or burn, the size of the wound in length, depth or width, the extent of the overall area of tissue is damage caused by the impact of a mechanical force or the reaction to chemical agents in, for example fires or exposure to caustic substances. Traumatology may also refer to the development, study or application of psychological or counseling services for people who have experienced extreme events.
