TRANSPLANT PROCEDURE -
Operation is done under general anaesthesia, duration 3-4 hrs.
Cut is given in the lower abdomen. Donar's kidney is transplanted retroposistonicaly in the illiac fosse. Arteries & veins of kidney are connected to the illiac artery & illiac vein of the recipient.
Ureter of new kidney is connected to the urinnary bladder.
Generally new kidney starts working immediately, occasionally a week.
IMMUNOSUPPRESSION -
To depress immune response of the receipient to graft rejection, cyclosporins is used for it.
