Transformation Processes - Operation Function

Here are examples of transforming processes:

Information processing

Organisations which handle large quantities of data such as banks, accountancy companies, and retail chains are transaction oriented. They change the nature of the input information and often the ownership on the information.

Order processing

Organisations which handle customers orders and match customers requirements to available stock or carry out allocation or resource planning against customers orders. This means changing a simple order into a plan of action which will be executed in due course.

Materials processing

Operations which change the physical characteristics of raw materials into finished goods. Other operations may control the transportation of components and finished products or control warehouse operations or delivery schedules.

Customer processing

Operations which provide services such as hair cutting, hotels or hospitals may accommodate or alter the 'customer' in a particular way. Some customer operations may change the customer's psychological state such as a university.
