Training on new medications can be valuable

Training on new medications can be valuable, and this is what many drug reps say they are doing. And if this training is necessary and useful, that is a good thing, and this is what makes this an "ethical issue". If it were black and white it would be easier. Many organizations are now refusing gifts or even visits from drug reps. Another thing these reps bring to agencies that serve people without a way to pay for meds is samples. So, refusing the visit sounds great from a moral perspective, but from another moral point of view (getting medications for clients with no insurance) it makes sense to take the samples (drug samples).

  • What do you think of this? What would you do? What other steps could be taken on this issue. A compromise?
