To what extent distinguish between rights and privileges

Problem: We claim many "rights" for ourselves, but are the majority of things we claim to be rights really "rights" or are they actually something else? To what extent ought we to distinguish between "rights" and "privileges" or "freedoms" or "preferences" or "desires" or "needs"? And when we speak of "social justice" (which we will understand to mean, broadly though ambiguous, "justice" in society), to what extent ought we to distinguish between convictions of "justice" and ideals of "goodness"?
