Understanding a Service
To understand how you are going to manage services, you must first think about the services themselves and the customers who use them. For your first assignment, you will focus on the services of a company that is not driven entirely by technology, even though technology may play an important role in how those services are delivered. Non-IT specific companies are all around us, such as grocery stores, higher education institutions, hospitals, and delivery services.
For this Discussion, research a non-IT company that provides a service. If you're having trouble identifying a company, think of the stores or businesses with which you've interacted in the last month, whether online, in-person, or in your home. For companies that have more than one market segment, choose the segment with which you are most familiar. While describing the service, consider the following in your post:
- Characterize the company's customer base.
- Identify services the company provides to their customers.
- Evaluate how well those services are managed and perceived based on your expereince.
- Identify one or more IT-related services that might be used to support the services provided by the company.
- Assess the effect of poorly provided IT services on those company-provided services.
Be sure to defend and support your opinion and remember to properly cite your sources according to APA guidelines.
