To research amp retrieve data on a topic to hone the skills

Purpose: To research & retrieve data on a topic, to hone the skills of paraphrasing/summarizing, and to practice the proper use of APA formatting (in-text citations & bibliographies).

Directions:
o Provide a cover page with the following information: Assignment title, Name, student #, date, course code, your class, time of class, Instructors name.(Not required for the electronic copy).
o 11 or 12 pt. font, black ink
o Single-spaced, stapled (hard copy)
o Use the section subheadings (as below) to organize your assignment
o Absolutely MINIMIZE the use of quotations - focus instead on properly paraphrasing/summarizing your research findings IN YOUR OWN WORDS. You will lose marks for simply ‘cutting & pasting' others' work.
o Textbook: Narrative Paragraphs (Chapt.5) & Narrative Essays (Chapt.14)

- Section 1: Personal Life

Length: approx. ½ to 1 page, single-spaced

In paragraph format, provide a biographical sketch of the individual (e.g. birth date & place, home life, education, personality, marital status, illnesses, financial status, notable events, etc.) As much as possible, discuss these personal details separately from the professional life of the inventor.

- Section 2: Professional Achievements (& Overall Significance to the World)

Length: approx. ¾ to 1 page, single-spaced

In paragraph format, present an overview of the inventor's career (including years of work, training, visibility within society, relationships with other inventors/scientists, clients, awards/recognition, influence on peer's/future thinkers, etc.) Focus on the most vital facts, rather than list every single date or detail.

- Referencing

• You may use Wikipedia for this assignment, but it MUST NOT be your only source! (You should confirm information given by Wikipedia by comparing it with that provided by your other sources).
• On a separate (& last) page, please cite all the sources used in a proper APA bibliography (see hand out)

***In addition, you must give credit for the bits of information you borrow, throughout your paragraphs, by citing them using APA in-text citation format (see hand out).***
At the end of sentences involving the use of another author's information, place the following:
(Author's surname, year, page) or
