  1. The United Nations is the most prominent international organization in the world. The UN's main function is to maintain international peace and stability but it has many other functions which address global issues on subjects such as education, poverty, law, health, cultural protection, inequality, female empowerment and climate change.

This essay will be in two parts. In the first part, you will 1) describe the functions and power of the UN General Assembly, UN Secretariat, UN Security Council and the International Court of Justice and 2) offer your views on whether you agree with how power is currently dispersed within these UN agencies or if there are some desirable reforms.

In the second part, you will 1) explain the "Four Views" of the United Nations based on the language in our relevant PowerPoint/text, 2) give your thoughts on which theoretical standpoint (or standpoints) is the most convincing and why 3) then discuss whether you would like the United Nations to become more or less influential in the decades to come and why.
