To avoid changing amplitude scales onthe oscilloscope

Suppose you have the following twosimple circuits. The first is a series connection ofa sinusoidal voltage source with valuevs(t)= 0. 5cosw 0t, a single resistor withvalue R, and a single capacitorwith value C. The second is a seriesconnection of a sinusoidal voltage source with the samevalue vs(t)= 0. 5cosw 0t, a single resistor withthe same value R, and a single inductorwith value L. During thedemonstration, the first circuit can be converted quickly into the second one by disconnecting the capacitor and connecting aninductor in its place.

a. To avoid changing amplitude scales onthe oscilloscope during the demonstration, suppose that you wantthe resistor voltage (in both circuits), the capacitor voltage, and the inductor voltage to have the same magnitude. Find the required relationships between R,L, Cand w 0.

b. If you use a resistorwith R= 1 kW and a capacitor with C = 220 pF (both readily available parts), find the required values ofL and f0=w 0/2p
