Titanium Alloys
Pure titanium is a light weight and strong ductile metal. This is very strong and as well as highly resistant to corrosion of all kinds but has the drawback such is readily reacts along with normal gases at around 300oC. This reacts readily along with C, O2, N2 and theses elements cause embrittlement of Ti. This melts at 1725oC, has a UTS of 600-800 MPa and percent elongation of 25%.
Ti 6 Al 4 V alloy develops UTS of 1300 MPa and had good oxdiaton, fatigue and creep resistance. Aero engines gas turbine blades and another part of engine and components of air frame are created of this alloy. Ti 5 Al 2.5 Sn is a strong alloy also as 900 MPa UTS that is employed in aircraft engine components at 470 to 500oC.
