TIMBER
Timber refers to wood utilized for construction works. Actually the word timber is derived from an old English word 'Timbrian' that means 'to build'. A tree that yields good wood for manufacture is known 'Standing Timber.' its branches are cut after felling a tree,and its stem is approximately converted into pieces of suitable length, so that it may be transported to timber yard. It form of timber is called as rough timber. Rough timber is converted into several commercial sizes by sawing like, battens, posts, planks, beams etc. Such form of timber is called as converted timber.
Timber was utilized as building material even by primitive man. Various ancient temples, bridges and palaces built with timber may be seen even today.
