What happened to young Goodman Brown's faith?

Thesis:

Nathaniel Hawthorne's "Young Goodman Brown" unveils the crossroads of good and evil. When Brown gets lost in the wilderness, he not only discovers the evil secretly underlying the "morals" of the Christian citizens of Salem, but he also loses his faith. Although Goodman Brown physically returns to Salem, his mind stays frozen between faithful and faithless.

Through allegorical references of Salem to faith, and the forest to the faithless, Hawthorne illustrates the relativity of faith itself.
