This project is aimed at groups investigating challenges

This project is aimed at groups investigating challenges faced by culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities in Australia and the implications of these challenges for Australian institutions and/or workplaces. CALD is a contemporary Australian terminology in place of the traditional Australian Bureau of Statistics terminology of "Non-English Speaking Background" or NESB.

The objectives of this assessment are for you to develop your capacity to:

Effectively undertake secondary research of CALD communities and challenges they face

Apply relevant theory to analyse and evaluate the challenges and their implications for relevant Australian institutions and/or workplaces

Provide recommendations to help overcome or minimise these challenges

Use the library/web resources to investigate challenges CALD communities face in Australia. Each group member is expected to undertake preliminary investigation of two CALD communities and challenges they face to focus on.

? Note:

?You could also extend your investigation to include specifically identified (named) cultural groups that are not referred to in your researched resources as 'CALD' but by definition would qualify as CALD communities e.g. the article is based on the Sudanese community but nowhere in that article is the group referred to as CALD. However, according to our definition the group qualifies as a CALD group and you may therefore investigate them.

?You may also investigate literature on CALD communities outside Australia; however you must critically analyse and evaluate if the challenge(s) outlined in the article(s) is/are relevant to Australia. If they are you may use them.

?The challenge may be faced by any stakeholder group within the CALD community at the local level e.g. it may be customers, suppliers, employees, managers, service providers etc. within Australia only.

?Please note that for the purpose of this assessment a religious group within the CALD community is not considered a CALD group. For example, 'Thai Muslims' or 'Filipino Christians' are not CALD groups but 'Thai' and 'Filipino' are. Similarly the use of the term
