This assignment is completed individually. The below list of contemporary staffing topics have been compiled to provide you with a board range of subjects so you may find a particular topic that interests you and you will enjoy to research. You are required to research and prepare a presentation which highlights one of the following topics:

  • Neurodiversity
  • Psychological contract for Gen Y (or Gen Z)
  • Realistic job preview
  • Employer branding (This is topic I have chosen)
  • Person-organisation fit
  • Big data and employee engagement
  • HR analytics
  • Organisational justice
  • Psychometric tests
  • Competency modelling
  • Strength-based recruitment
  • Innovative recruitment
  • Employment value proposition (EVP
  • Ethics in recruitment and selection

Once you have chosen a topic you must research the current state of that topic as it relates to recruitment, selection and retention. Your assignment must clearly:

  • Define the topic,
  • Include the concepts and theories, if any,
  • Explain why understand this topic is important to recruitment, selection and retention and, 
  • Provide a workplace example, where appropriate
  • Discuss the implications to an organisation (strategic HRM). 

You may also wish to provide anything that may be interesting and useful to the audience.  To help ensure you have considered the latest knowledge in this field; you must use a minimum of 10 relevant and up-to-date academic journal articles or classical (important and fundamental) articles to research your chosen topic. Ensure the majority of articles are published in 2012 onwards from journals and books. The purpose of this assignment is to investigate your chosen topic in depth. 

The design/format of the brochure is up to you but keep in mind that a brochure should be interesting, informative and creative to catch the attention of the reader, present information succinctly and most importantly is able to convey its main/important message. You will also be required to conduct a 5-7 minute presentation to your classmates. If you need, you can have a PowerPoint presentation with a maximum of 6 slides. If you exceed this time limit (5-7 min), your final mark will be reduced by 10%. The lecturer might also schedule to interview you regarding your topic after the class, or at an agreed time.  The mark given will be based on your verbal presentation and your content, creativity, attractiveness, format, knowledge and ability to present your research findings and answer the audience's questions.   If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to your lecturer. 

You must also submit a presentation pack (a hard copy) to your lecturer. The poster pack must include:

  • ECU cover page
  • Slides in a note form
  • Detailed notes for your presentation (maximum 3 pages, 600-800 words)-please also drop this to TurnItIn before the start of the lecture.
  • A list of a minimum of 10 academics references consulted (from 2012 onwards, unless it is classic).
  • A copy of articles used (only the abstract of each article)
  • A brochure to the audience
  • Other material if appropriate e.g. PowerPoint Slides, interesting articles to share to the class, etc.
