For this post I used Indeed and searched my state of Utah for "Health Information Management". I found a full-time position entitled "HIM Documentation Analyst" for the University of Utah Health Care system.
The position description is quite lengthy but basically this analyst would review patient charts within an EHR to ensure local, state and federal regulatory compliance. They would prepare weekly reports to management and research discrepancies.
This analyst would also process requests for releases of information and perform various audits on other healthcare data. All applicants must have three years' experience in a healthcare environment, and advanced knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA regulations.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities include extensive knowledge of regulatory standards, extensive computer software experience, critical thinking, excellent communication and customer service skills. The job posting makes no mention of a required or preferred level of education or degree.
To me this position sounds like an entry level or just above entry level HIM analyst. Although the duties and requirements are very straightforward I would not be interested in this position because I believe it does not pay as much as I would like and it sounds quite boring.
That being said, if the position was either telework eligible or paid enough I would be interested.
