Theory of raewyn connells

This is the theoretical framework section which should discuss three parts.

The first part is the theory of Raewyn Connell’s both historical and structural features.

1.Historically, Connell (1987, 1995) addressed the Western tradition, which posits three ruptures which have characterized the interaction of gender and capitalism: between work and home; between public and private worlds; and between the social spheres allocated to women and men.

2.The structural theory of Gender Order consisting of the following three features labor, power, and Cathexis. Gender order is related to Hegemonic Masculinity a characteristic structural feature of which is the power of men over other women and subordinate men.

This section also has to discuss the Connel’ global dimenstions of gender inequalities and Western social theory generally (i.e. 1997) together with an understanding and affinity for theoretical and empirical research emerging from the Global South (e.g. 2007) including that of Islamic societies.

The second part is Sylvia Walby’s theory of Globalization and Inequalities. It has to emphasize the shift from private to public patriarchy suggested six structural features of gender. It has to feature Walbys recent work:

1.The co-evolution of global processes with trajectories of development (2009)

2.The phenomenon of gender mainstreaming (2005)

The final part of this paper has to relate both theories of Connell and Walby. Like Connell, Walbys structures are fundamentally relational in that each of the structures contains a set of gendered relations and practices which either exclude or marginalize women.
