The young catherine was to marry her cousin on new years

In the ending of this gothic Victorian romance Wuthering Heights I was actually surprised to see that

The young Catherine was to marry her cousin on New Year's Day. He is her 1st cousin, son of her Uncle Hinsley. (Hermother's brother) I am surprised as I thought that wasa BIG no no.

Marrying 1st cousins was allowed back then in 1802? Can anyone describe this for me please?
