The TSA requires airport passengers to go through an extensive screening process before they board a plane. The process works as follows. First, passengers wait on average 5 minutes, and then they show their ticket and ID to a security agent (which takes about 1 minute). Then’ passengers wait again on average for 5 minutes, and then go through one of two security checkpoints where 75% simply walk through the X-ray and 25% go through the full body scan machine. It takes, on average 5 minutes to go through the Xray and 10 minutes to get the full body scan. TSA estimates that on average the checkpoint system processes 60 passengers per hour.

What are the flow units of this process?

How many total passengers in this entire process are waiting, on average, at any given time?

What type of work layout (product, process, fixed position, etc.) is being used in the TSA screening process?
