The purpose of this master thesis deals with the study and research of the behavior factor "q" and its effect upon all concrete building structures that are designed by the contemporary Euro-code EC2, part 1.1 and EC8, part 1.

The role of the behavior factor "q" is analyzed based on the linear seismic analysis (response spectrum)

Today, this method is the most common method for the study or for the design of a structure under earthquake loading

It should be emphasized that this procedure only leads to the maximum response instead of fully describing the response

RESEARCH PROJECT

The subject of the research project is to complete the EQ structural analysis of a number of 3D frame R/C buildings with different q factors.

The main scope of the research project is to investigate the influence of different earthquake actions that result from the requirements of EC8 and by extension from "q" factor.

Methodology & Stages

Definition of Seismic Loading
(response spectrum of EC8 with 0.25pga type 1 and soil type B)

Design of examined 3D R/C building frames according to the provisions of Eurocodes (EC0, EC1, EC2, EC8)
(with fixed conditions at the base level).
Structural analysis of designed 3D models
(using SAP2000 software)
Evaluation of the results
(displacements, forces, reinforcement)
