The research project for this course has a thematic focus, "the Impact of the Civil War." While focusing on this theme, each student is required to select a very specific topic from the Civil War era as the subject of his or her research. The Civil War was perhaps the most impactful event in American history; there is no shortage of areas to investigate how the war shaped/reshaped American society, even as the war dragged on and certainly in the immediate aftermath of conflict. Think broadly and creatively about this; select an issue/area and construct a research-driven narrative containing both primary and secondary sources detailing the war's impact on your issue/area.
