In the past three years a number of natural events have occurred that may be related to global climate change. These events include floods, heat waves, tropical cyclones, massive landslides, and glacier or ice sheet melting, among others. Research and write a short paper (one page maximum) describing one of these events, discussing how this event could be related to (caused by) global warming and presenting the evidence for and against. Include a brief summary of the political, social, economic and environmental impacts of this event.
The purpose of this paper is to understand the connection between climate change and real events that affect human life and livelihood and to demonstrate the complexity of interpreting naturally occurring phenomena in the context of global climate change. You should look carefully at whether the events have been occurring with more frequency, are consistent with increasing global temperatures, and occur at predicted locations for such events. Do not choose natural events that are clearly not a consequence of global climate change, such as earthquakes or volcanic eruptions.
An additional page may be used for references and figures. References should include newspaper or magazine articles or web references. References and figures (if included) should be appropriately cited in the text and the Reference list should use MLA format.
