Purpose
The prompt (topic) for the cause OR effect essay is turning points. When thinking about the causes of an important decision or event in life, one may discover that those causes are linked to effects that, in turn, lead to more causes and effects. This is similar to the plot of a story.
Instructions
For this essay, write about the causes OR effects (not both) of a turning point in one's life. Select one of the following topics:
Students should analyze the causes of an event that is experienced or observed, for example

• Changing careers or a job
Students should analyze the effects of an event or activity that they have experienced or observed, for example
• Attending college
• Relocating to a new neighborhood or city
• Working out
• Changing careers or a job
After choosing a topic for the cause or effect essay, follow the eight steps of the writing process, including prewriting, focusing, organizing, and outlining and drafting, revising, editing, and proofreading the essay before submitting it to the instructor for evaluation.
Format Requirements
• Write 500-600 words, five paragraph minimum
• Follow standard MLA paper format requirements.
