The procedure in which initially the sample of subjects is selected for generating the auxillary information only, and then the second sample is selected in which the variable of interest is observed additionally to the auxillary information. The second sample is often selected as the subsample of the first. The reason of this type of sampling is to obtain the better estimators by using the relationship between the auxillary variables and the variable of interest.
