The potential of a typical storm cloud can be as high as 109 volts. When lightning is produced, a typical lightning strike can produces an electric current of 20,000 amps.

a. Determine the power contained in a lightning strike (in kW).

b. If the earth is covered with 2000 lightning storms each producing 100 strikes per second, determine the total lightning electrical power available (in kW).
