I have a philosophy paper about " The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas"
There are 2 sections you are going to work on.
First: Prepare 3-4 paragraph about 300 words on either:
- The ones who actually do walk away from Omelas-are they morally superior, morally inferior, or morally equivalent to those who stay and live in Omelas? Use specific passages or arguments from Chapter 5 of J. S. Mill's Utilitarianism to support your answer. Give some attention to the best argument against your position.
or
- Write a short sequel that puts the story of Omelas into accord with your own personal sense of morality, justice, and dignity? Use specific passages or arguments from Chapter 5 of J. S. Mill's Utilitarianism to strengthen the moral logic of your sequel.
Second: Prepare 200 words on the given problem:
Does LeGuin's fable have anything at all to say about our own time and place, or is it just an intellectual fantasy? Do we already live in Omelas now? Use specific examples of social, political or economic relationships in the contemporary world to make your best case for the validity and limitations of this comparison.
