Max Steiner
Bernard Hermann
These composers show the importance of music to film (as discussed in Chapter 18 of your text), each highlighting a different film composer as assigned below. This listening journal needs a minimum of four paragraphs of strong content, and the number one goal is to highlight the composer’s work. This can be done by showing:
The musical education or prior musical experiences of the composer
Any traits that are characteristic of their work or consistent in their work
Film directors they have continuing relationships with and why
List their most important works and, when possible, provide links to examples
The goal is to use what you have learned writing in your listening journal throughout the semester to apply to the work of a composer. You may describe specific examples (include audio link), and background information about the composer to highlight their development.
