The majority of states place juveniles sentenced for crimes

Juveniles in detention centers may be in either public or private facilities. The majority of states place juveniles sentenced for "crimes" in public facilities. In private facilities for "status offenses", or "voluntary placement". What is the difference and why would states place sentenced juveniles in public rather than private facilities.

Check on training requirements for private and public facilities and see if there is a difference. Check on the costs (if you can) for placement in a private facility over a public one?
