The loss of some segments during network link failures

One would expect the loss of some segments during network link failures for TCP connections. If a link fails and segments are lost, TCP cuts down its windows size after detecting the loss. Unicast routing adapts to the failed link (that was on the shortest path) by routing through another path (longer than the failed path). Describe the behavior of the TCP connection when the old route becomes available again. (Consider the case where TCP window size is such that the communication pipe between the sender and the receiver on the longer path is filled with segments. Assume the same data rate on all links.)
