In Ch. 5 of "The Color of Water", Ruth discusses being molested as a child by her father and how it affected her. She also makes the following comment about what folks would say about her marriage to a black man, "Oh, she felt low, so she went on and married a nigger. Well, I don't care. Your father changed my life." Would you agree or disagree with what these folks are saying? Do you believe Ruth married a black man because she felt low due to being molested as a child? Do you feel that childhood experiences impact decisions to date or marry individuals from culture groups other than your own? What is your reaction to Ruth's comment, as well as, your reaction to what the folks are saying?
