The IR Spectra of solid benoic acid and liquid acetic acid are shown below. The OH stretch of a carboxylic acid is normally a broad peak from 3500-2500 cm-1. Explain why acetic acid has a very broad intense and prominent peak in this area but benzoic acid is of medium intensity.
