The increase in the respondentseducationincomeoccupational

Introduction

Description of Data set and Variables

The dataset used in this study is 2006 General Social Survey (GSS)

Hypothesis
The increase in the respondent'seducation/income/occupational prestige will lead to increase in his or her level ofenvironmental concerns

Dependent Variables

The dependent variable of the model is environmental concerns.

I include four types of environmental concerns.

1) NATENVIR: Are we spending too much, too little, or about the right amount on (ITEM)? B. Improving and protecting the environment. The responses all range from 1, meaning "Too little", to 3, meaning: "Too much".

2) SPENVIRO: Listed below are various areas of government spending. Please indicate whether you would like to see more or less government spending in each area. Remember that if you say "much more", it might require a tax increase to pay for it. A. The environment.

3) GRNLAWS: On the whole, do you think it should or should not be the government's responsibility to impose strict laws to make industry do less damage to the environment?

4) HELPENV:How successful do you think the government in America is nowadays in each of the following areas? F. Protecting the environment

Independent Variables

5) EDUC: Respondent's education (Continuous Variable)

6)REALINC: In which of these groups did your total family income, from all sources, fall last year before taxes, that is (Continuous Variable).

7)PREST80: Respondent's occupation, prestige, and industry (Continuous Variable)
Control Variables

8)AGE

9) SEX

10) RACE

11) POLVIEWS:I'm going to show you a seven-point scale on which the political views that people might hold are arranged from extremely liberal to extremely conservative. Where would you place yourself on this scale?

12) MARITAL

13) CHILDS

Descriptive Statistics
(Table:Descriptive Statistics Table for 13 variables above.Include Number of observations, Mean, Standard Deviation, Range, Skewness and Kurtosis)

Initial Models
(Table: Correlation between variables for4 subgroups below)
1) NATENVIR, EDUC, REALINC, PREST80
2) SPENVIRO, EDUC, REALINC, PREST80
3) GRNLAWS, EDUC, REALINC, PREST80
4) HELPENV, EDUC, REALINC, PREST80

1) Dependent Variable - NATENVIR (recoderesponse in reverse order)

Independent Variable -EDUC, REALINC, PREST80, AGE, SEX, RACE, POLVIEWS, MARITAL CHILDS (REALINCOME take natural logarithm. ln(realinc))

2) DV - SPENVIRO(recode response in reverse order) / IV -ditto

3) DV - GRNLAWS(recode response in reverse order) / IV -ditto

4) DV -HELPENV / IV -ditto

Model Improvements 1- Ordinal Logistic Regression Model

Model Improvements 2- Create scale

Model Improvements 3-Interactions

I would like to find out if there are interactions between three independent variables and other control variables

Model diagnostics and limitation
