The hand-held pointer and tablet in the form of a stylus i.e. pen or puck can function one or more of these three functions:
(i) For choosing positions on a drawing or on a menu on the screen through moving the stylus on the tablet, in a sense utilizing the stylus and tablet as pen on the paper.
(ii) For giving a command or to input a parameter through pressing the stylus at particular pre-programmed locations of a menu on the tablet.
(iii) For digitizing the location on a map or drawing placed upon the tablet along with the stylus or puck.
