The goal of this response is to focus on explaining what you have read. Imagine that you are speaking with a younger sibling or friend (someone still in high school) who has not had any experience with sociology. How would you summarize and explain Merton's essay to them?
Limit yourself to 250 words or less, and be sure to use clear language that a high school student would be likely to understand. Be sure to also indicate to this sibling or friend the value of Merton's perspective. What is useful, worthwhile, or beneficial about his approach?
