The advance of a new astronomy; the discovery of new landmasses with unknown animals, plants, and people; and the rise of new thoughts stressing the significance of experimentation and evidence, undermined the believability of long-standing ideas about mankind and the world when all is said in done. Cynics started to ask why they ought to trust the Church or the Bible, why a few men were rich and others not, and why certain men were rulers while others were serfs. The general thought of the "New World" provoked individuals to scrutinize the centrality of the old world. Why was astronomy so controversial for the church?
