International Finance - Coursework

One essay of 3,000 words (40%).?The lowest limit of word counts: 2800 words.

Module outline describes the topics in international finance we are going to cover in this semester. Choose one topic and write a literature review that includes at least 15 journal articles published after 2000 on the topic you choose.

Although some of papers you review could examine the topic in a single country, the literature review on a whole must be internationally focused.

At least 10 papers reviewed should come from the economics or finance journals rated at ABS level-3 or level-4. Please HIGHLIGHT them in your references. ABS journal ranking is posted on Moodle separately.

Please integrate the papers you reviewed and present a big picture on the specific field you choose, rather than merely summarizing and presenting them one by one.

The Essay

The essay should begin with an Introduction explaining your main objectives and proposals. Headings and sub-headings need be used to divide the text, however long lists should be avoided. The essay should also be word processed and have numbered pages.

The word count devoted to each section is entirely up to you.

You should bear in mind that marks will be awarded for the rigour, quality, clarity and creativity of your essay, and not for the word count devoted to each section of your final document. Indeed, you may find that some aspects of the report are best written-up very succinctly even if they involved substantial research efforts. You should also note that substantial marks may be lost if your essay is poorly presented and/or inappropriately referenced. For more information on Harvard-style referencing, and on essay and case study coursework preparation in general, please consult the Master Student Handbook (Pages 39-42).

Your Essay

The structure for your final essay should be as follows: Title Page

This should contain essay title, you details, word counts (2700 minimum) and date of submission in an appropriate format.

Introduction

This should explain the scope of the entire essay. What is the research question your literature review focuses on? Why this question is interesting or important? What was/is the debate on this question in the literature?

Headings and sub-headings may be used to divide the rest texts

Headings and sub-headings may be used to divide the text, however long lists should be avoided.?Please summarize/review theoretical arguments and empirical findings on your topic separately.

Conclusion

You should include a brief conclusion to your essay. This may usefully highlight issues/recommendations that link and/or draw from the content of several other sections. No new ideas/ materials are needed here

References

These should be Harvard Style, strict alphabetical (NOT by section) and not divided into books, journals, websites, etc. You are reminded that essays that are not appropriately referenced Harvard Style will be limited to a maximum II-2 mark. Endnote is a useful tool for you to manage your citations. Please pay attention to library's workshop notifications.

Appendix

You may present graphs or charts to support your views, summarize articles you reviewed in tables for better comparison, or borrow key frameworks from articles you cite (with clear table notes showing sources of the frameworks). Please start a new page for Appendix. Remember to discuss and refer to them in the text.
