Plagiarism is a critical topic in the academic realm is taken very seriously because it is a literary crime. Plagiarism is taking the ideas or words of someone else and not giving credit to the original source. It has two parts: stealing the words and then lying about stealing the words ("What is Plagiarism?", 2017).
Regardless if the person is quoting the source or paraphrasing the source, they must remember to cite the source in the text and list the source as a reference ("Academic Integrity at MIT").
It is important to always cite the sources because we must cite other sources to increase our credibility in our own research. It would be a waste of resources to reinvent the wheel than to simply cite and acknowledge other people's findings to further propel new findings.
I found these two sources to be helpful because they give a very simplified definition/explanation of plagiarism. In addition, they also provide multiple examples of plagiarism and expand on the definition pass just the academic papers.
They also presented how other content such as music and video can also be plagiarized. Understanding plagiarism and avoiding it will increase our credibility in the work we produce.

Two things that I learned or found really important in the library tutorial videos are:
1) The differences and pro/cons of using keyword searches versus subject searches of databases. Keywords are generally considered more flexible, in part due to the full document search strategy.
This flexibility comes at the cost of a potentially large amount of inconsequential results. Subject searches stick to a smaller section of the document, but require the knowledge of a more precise vocabulary to be utilized to the greatest effect.
2) Citations captured from the databases are not always formatted correctly. This seems like a really good warning for those of us whom often rely on a good copy/paste for our citations.
