The danger to birds posed by spinning wind turbines is analogous to the danger to whales posed by sonar tests conducted by Navy submarines. In one case, the benefit is rewable energy; in the other case, the benefit is (according to the military Civillian Dept. of Defense officials) enhance national security. How should we weigh such conflicting interests and decide between them?
