The courts should best address the war on drugs

The War on Drugs has long been waged and is the subject of much attention and controversy. Many states and the federal courts have created drug courts and other courts that use therapeutic jurisprudence. Legislators have responded with sentencing guidelines which mandate often lengthy and mandatory sentences but which some argue has caused court documents to swell and prisons to be overcrowded.

Research and locate an example - state or federal - of a drug related offense and share how that case what handled and discuss the penalties imposed. Discuss how you think the courts should best address the war on drugs? Should judges or legislators handle the matter? What are some possible solutions?

How might these issues impact court reform in the future? How should we handle cases that cross the borders and have an international impact?
