Guided Response: Respond to at least two of your classmates' posts. In your responses, comment on the degree to which you feel their examples will be helpful in promoting student understanding of the value of equity in the classroom and ask them to elaborate if needed.

As with previous discussions, though two replies are the basic expectation, for deeper engagement and learning, you are encouraged to provide responses to any comments or questions others have given to you.

This will further the conversation and provide you with opportunities to demonstrate your content expertise, critical thinking, and real world experiences with this topic.

Equal vs Equitable

Equal versus Equitable means exactly the same whereas equitable means fairly. For example, if you have two groups and both receive 50% of a resource, but may not be equitable.

How I will explore this workplace. I'm a Center Director at a Child Development Center with 4 classrooms and 12 staff and 72 children. 2 classrooms have 20 kids each and 2 have 16 each. I will split the paperwork/assessments in half 50-50 so that it's fair for all my center staff.

That way no teacher is doing more than the other and they both equally have a chance to learn Head Starts paperwork system, and how we look for outcomes to support our data that's need for reporting to the Office of Head Start. My Center staff are also union employees who support fairness as well .

Equity versus equality is a topic that can be controversial in some instances. The controversy derives from the fact that while in many instances equality is seen as the most ethical option, sometimes due to the circumstance, equity Is simply the most viable option.

In actuality each principal has its own beneficial use. Equality focuses on providing an equal amount or opportunity amongst each party involved, while equity focuses on tailoring aspects to fit specific needs.

To draw an example of a situation as such, let's say a photographer is tasked with organizing the positions of a group band on a photoshoot. Though each member is equally important, the most viable option to capture each member as efficiently as possible would be to have the tallest of the group member stand in the back, while the shortest members take the front row.

This would allow the photographer to get as much as possible out of the photo. To draw an example where equality might proceed equity, let's say several cooking show contestants are tasked with baking a pie only using specified tools and ingredients.

Though some of the pies may come out different, each contestant is being provided with the same materials. This provides a high degree of equality by allowing each contestant to work the same materials.
