Roskin and Berry discuss three theories about the causes of the collapse of the Soviet Union:
(imperial overstretch, defective system, bungled reform).
1. Choose one of these theories and explain how it relates to the collapse of the USSR, and assess whether it relates mainly to domestic (internal) or international (external) factors in explaining the Soviet collapse.
2. Discuss whether both domestic and international factors are equally the causes of the Soviet collapse, or whether one, more than the other (domestic or international), is the basic cause of the demise of the USSR.
3. Discuss if modern post-Soviet Russia inherited policy of imperial overstretch. Provide an example.
