The caring theory by watson because it is very applicable

discussion 1

I chose the Caring Theory by Watson because it is very applicable in many different ways to the hospitalized patient. In caring theory, caring is redefined from being task-oriented to being a mutual, reciprocal, spiritual force that transcends both the patient and nurse; true healing occurs in the context of a ‘caring moment,' in which the nurse connects with the spirit of the patient and facilitates self-discovery and self-awareness." (King & Kornusky, 2016) When in the hospital patients face many challenges and when the nurse cares enough to go above and beyond to make the stay as comfortable as possible, the patient benefits. The nurse can show caring in many ways. He or she can help integrate religious or spiritual practices, using other methods in place of restraints, diming lights, providing warm blankets, lowering the blinds, clustering care, etc. When the nurse does these acts it shows that the nurse cares about the patient's comfort.

So, my PICOT question would look like this. In hospitalized patients, does lowering noise levels promote healing and decrease the length of stay compared to current noise levels.

P= In hospitalized patients

I= does lowering noise levels

C= current noise levels

O= promote healing therefore reducing length of stay.

T= current length of stay vs length of stay with intervention.

The hospital I work for has gone through great lengths to reduce noise levels for patients. The hallways on the patient floors are all carpeted. This allows the noise of walking and rolling beds to be decreased. The carpet is individual squares that if very soiled can be replaced individually. Also, the carpets are shampooed weekly with a solution that sanitizes them too. This single act has had a great impact on the noise levels and shows that the hospital cares about the comfort of the patients. In addition to the carpets, the hospital has made every room a private room with private bathrooms and all food is made to order when the patient orders the food. The hospital system I work for goes above and beyond to show it cares about the patients.
