I am writing a compare and contrast essay. I will be comparing and contrasting great white sharks to lions. when comparing sharks to lions I must discuss some of there vulnerabilities and historical uniqueness. I will need the rough draft by Saturday and the final draft on Monday.

When comparing a Lion and a Great white Shark, I found that Great Whites happen to be The Beast of the water, while Lions happen to be The beast of land!?

Introduction:

A Great Whites and Lions both happen to be very comparable animals in their respective ecosystems.

I. Great whites are ? The beast of the water.?

A. Characteristics.

1. Great whites are one of the primary predators of marine mammals: including fish and seabirds.

2. Great whites have no natural predator other than the orca.

B. Size and Lifespan

1. Great whites are known to grow up to 21ft.

2. Great whites reach maturity at the age of 15, and has a life span of 30 to 70 years.

II. Lions ?The best of the land?

A. Characteristics.

1. Lions are also primary predators of their lands. The Nile crocodile is the only predator (besides humans) that can singly threaten the lion.

2. Lions and great whites are considered a vulnerable species and will attack humans.

B. Size and life span

1. The size of adult lions varies across their range but male lions can reach up to 600 pounds

2. Lions have a 29-year lifespan on average.

III. Environment, speed, strength and power

A. The Deep blue sea

1. Great whites can be found in all major oceans coastal surface waters.

2. The great white can reach speeds of up to 35 mph. A great whites bite force is equivalent to 4,000 pounds.

B. 10,000 years ago lions were the most widespread large land mammals after humans.

1. Wild Lions currently exist in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.

2. Lions can reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour short distance. Lions are Scavenger hunters individually. Lions can bring down prey multiple times their size.

IV. Communications and adaptations

A. Electromagnetic field

1. Great whites are able to detect the electromagnetic field emitted of moving living things.

2. Great whites have adapted to maintain a body temperature warmer than the surrounding waters in order to hunt more fast and agile prey such as sea lions.

B. It's a tough pride life.

1. Head rubbing and social licking are the most common peaceful gestures within the lions communication.

2. Lions are the most socially inclined of all cat family. Lions usually live in large groups called prides or in pairs.

Conclusion:

The Great white shark and lions are very similar species when you compare some of their behavioral habits and dominance. Their both at the top of the food chain in their ecosystems. They're both vulnerable predators. However they also have their differences, such as communication styles, social structures, and hunting techniques. The biggest diffence of all is that they thrive in very different habits/environments from one another.
