The aim of this study participants were asked to walk

Hypotheses

H0 There is no correlation between hours walking and weight loss.

H1 There is a positive correlation between hours walking and weight.

H2 There is a negative correlation between hours walking and weight loss.

Null and alternative hypotheses rejected as there is a correlation with hours walking and weight loss. There is a positive but weak correlation between hours walking and weight loss.

Normality criteria satisfied as each histogram has a symmetrical bell shaped curve without skewing.

Linearity is satisfied with an average line (regression) in the midst of a cloud of points and is indicative of a positive but weak relationship.

Homoscedasticity has been satisfied with a cluster dots along the regression line. Although points are wide spread there are almost equal numbers of points on either side of the regression line.

Summary

The aim of this study participants were asked to walk briskly (time walked) daily to examine the effects on their weight at the end of the week. Data collection included the amount of hours walked daily and weight loss at the end of the week. Analyses were conducted to check for normality of the two variables, linearity and homoscedasticity. Bivariate correlation was completed with a scatter plot regression line resulting in a week but positive correlation between hours walked and weight loss among participants. There was a positive association between the variables with r = 0.317 and a p value <.001that is less than the alpha .05, considered statistically significant there for the null (Ho) and alternative hypotheses (H2) are rejected and the hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Although statistically significant with a weak positive relationship between brisk walking and weight loss there could exist other variables that could affect weight loss i.e. amount of calories consumed daily.
