Position/Argumentative Essay
Topic: Violent video games are promoting the aggressive behavior among kids
In this essay, you will be presenting a position and arguing it based on the research you have
done. You will use at least four and no more than eight sources for your topic. At
least half of your sources need to be obtained through library resources; e.g., if you have six
sources, then at least three of them are from the library. Non-library sources should also come
from credible, scholarly resources, so sites like ehow.com, about.com, and (especially)
Wikipedia are not allowed. The goal of the paper is to encourage effective powers of persuasion by taking a position
on a controversial issue, offering valid reasons for that position, and formulating reasoned
counterarguments from an opposing position.
Details/structure:
1. Overall length of at least five pages
2. An introduction containing a lead-in background of the topic and the thesis.
3. The following paragraphs will contain reasons for your position and rebuttal(s) to the
counterargument to your position.
- This will include evidence from your research for each argument in support of your
position.
- This area will also include 4-8 MLA-style in-text citations for your arguments and
counterarguments (typically, at least one from each source, and at least one to support
each argument).
4. The last paragraph will be your conclusion.
5. The last page will be your MLA-style formatted Works Cited, which is not included in
the assignment page count
